Senior Living Automation – Starting a new chapter in life

When it comes to the elderly, the most common problem that they face is of physical dependence and absent mindedness. Physically dependence increases with age grows and also they tend to forget things. This may however prove dangerous as they have to deal with things like gas, electricity, etc. on a daily basis.

Science over the years has found out solutions for this. It has come up with automation solutions keeping in mind the needs of the elderly. Various products are offered as a part of the automation solutions for the well-being of the senior citizens.

There are automated solutions available for operating electrical devices. Remote Control is a solution meant for operating electrical devices at home. Electrical devices such as lights, fans, air conditioners can be operated with the help of a Remote Control. This reduces their effort to operate the devices manually.

With age the physical activities of the seniors lessen down and many of them find it difficult to frequently switch on/off lights manually. The Remote Control in this case proves as a boon to them. It leads to decreased dependence on the caregiver and a feeling of satisfaction amongst the elderly.
Motion Sensor is another product which can be installed in the passageways, bathrooms, pantries, etc. The sensors automatically turn on/off based on the movement sensed over a predefined period. This eliminates manual turning on/off the lights and a solution for absentmindedness of elderly.

Panic buttons and emergency call buttons can be made use of in case of an emergency. Panic buttons when pressed sends a notification to the smartphone or tablet of the resident thereby allowing them to take immediate action.

In apartments and societies, you could also opt for a Central Monitoring System or a Facility Management System. The Central Monitoring System is used to monitor emergency calls or unexpected events occurring in the house. The Facility Management System is also used to address issues related to the facility management e.g., lift not working, issues with AC or kitchen drainage etc.
Then there are smoke sensors which rings an alarm when any smoke is detected. This helps to control situations in case of a fire breakout.

Elderly people many a times forget to put off the knob of the gas, which may result in dangerous situations. The gas sensors can work as a life saver here. Not only does it warn the resident but also the Facility Management Staff. It raises an alarm so that the Facility Management Staff can take necessary action.

Also for people who wish to monitor activities of their elders can install IP Cameras at homes. This camera can connect wirelessly to any WiFi or to the internet for viewing via the Smart App. The camera is able to automatically record the activity when any sensor is triggered in the room. This helps the person who is monitoring to take necessary action regarding the same.
